On March 31, the World Internet Conference (WIC) held a briefing in Beijing for its two flagship initiatives, namely the Practice Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace (Practice Cases) and the World Internet Conference Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology (WIC Awards). The event brought together representatives from embassies in China, international organizations, global enterprises, government agencies, universities, and think tanks, both in person and online. Some representatives attended the event at sub-venues in Shanghai, Nanjing and Wuxi.

A WIC representative emphasized that the WIC looks forward to discovering a cohort of outstanding practice cases, frontier scientific and technological breakthroughs, and leveraging the WIC platform to promote the transformation of these achievements—from concepts to practices, from laboratories to real-world scenarios, and from innovations to products—thereby stimulating global collaboration and innovation.

The WIC Secretariat provided a comprehensive overview of the 2026 Practice Cases and WIC Awards, including submission process, evaluation criteria, and major benefits for participants.

To help attendees better understand the submission requirements and learn from successful projects, the Practice Cases briefing session featured dialogues with representatives from SAP, Tsinghua University, and Jingdezhen Network Security and Informatization Center, who shared their insights on case submissions in key areas such as the Innovative Development of the Digital Economy, Global Governance in Cyberspace, Online Cultural Exchanges and Mutual Learning. Their sharing covered topic selection, material preparation, key challenges and benefits, offering valuable inspiration for applicants from enterprises, universities, government agencies, and other sectors. Meanwhile, two international review experts provided authoritative interpretations of the evaluation criteria and key considerations, offering effective guidance for the interested parties.

During the briefing session on the WIC Awards, Ou Zhonghong, tenured professor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, chaired a roundtable dialogue. Three representatives of past winning projects—the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, GALBOT, and AMD—shared valuable insights on key aspects such as project topic selection, submission material polishing, and partner selection. Beijing Cyberspace Administration, as a recipient of the Outstanding Organization award, shared experience in mobilizing enterprises and assisting applicants, offering highly valuable guidance for the submission to 2026 WIC Awards.

A Q&A session was also held, where representatives from the WIC Secretariat responded to questions raised by attendees both in-person and online.

Submissions to the 2026 Practice Cases and WIC Awards are now open, and will end at 24:00 on June 15 (BJT, UTC+8). The WIC welcomes submissions from all sectors globally.
