The World Internet Conference (WIC) Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology were presented at a ceremony held in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 8.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Zhuang Rongwen, minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China and chair of the WIC, Francis Gurry, vice-chair of the WIC, Wang Song and Wang Jingtao, vice-ministers of the Cyberspace Administration of China, Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC, Ke Jixin, vice-governor of Zhejiang, and Zhang Xuewei, vice-chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, among others.
In line with the theme of the WIC Wuzhen Summit this year - "Creating an Inclusive and Resilient Digital World Beneficial to All -- Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace" - the award ceremony served as an international platform for showcasing, exchanging, and promoting the world's pioneering internet scientific and technological achievements. Fifteen projects of international representation won the award.
In addition, the WIC continued to present commemorative certificates of Excellence in Organization to the units that demonstrated outstanding performance in the organization of candidate projects submission, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Mobile Communications Group Co Ltd, China Telecom Corporation Limited, China United Network Communications Group Corporation Limited, and Tsinghua University.
The release of world leading internet scientific and technological achievements has been held for seven consecutive years and has played a significant role in encouraging scientific and technological innovation and advocating technological exchanges and cooperation.
This year, the event has been comprehensively upgraded into the WIC Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology and featured a grand ceremony to honor the remarkable contributions made by internet players in advancing internet scientific and technological achievements throughout the year, in a bid to build an innovative display platform of higher standard.
