Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the World Internet Conference (WIC), attended the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai and gave a speech at a sub-forum, titled "Digital Things: Building a Digital Country," on June 28.

Noting that the international community has been confronted with such challenges as the digital divide, the fragmented building of a digital society, the safety risks of artificial intelligence, and a global digital governance deficit, Ren called on all countries to build a highly efficient and collaborative digital government, create an innovation-driven digital economy, cultivate rich and diverse digital culture, form a universal and inclusive digital society, and consolidate a digital foundation for green and inclusive development.

Ren said that all countries should follow a digital transformation path suited to their respective national realities and adhere to the people-oriented principles of wide participation, innovation-driven development and win-win cooperation in a safe and orderly manner in the midst of building a digital state.

Ren stressed that the WIC has attached great importance and paid close attention to the practices of each country in the building of a digital state and added that the WIC is willing to further promote the sharing of practices and to deepen international cooperation on the building of a digital state.

In addition, Ren also extended an invitation to all participants at the 2023 MWC Shanghai to attend the upcoming 2023 WIC Wuzhen Summit, which is expected to hold a number of themed activities to review its decade-long history and to anticipate a bright future.

During his attendance of the 2023 MWC Shanghai, Ren visited exhibition booths of Huawei Technologies Co, China Unicom and Lenovo Group to learn more about their latest technologies and products.

The 2023 MWC Shanghai was held by the Global System for Mobile Communications Alliance (GSMA) and attended by top executives of leading Chinese and international enterprises, as well as foreign officials. The sub-forum aimed to create a stronger economy and a beautiful society and make social governance more efficient through exploring new technologies and bolstering competence and cooperation.
