2023 WIC information meeting held in Beijing

The World Internet Conference (WIC) launched its call for submissions for the 2023 World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements and Practice Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace, in Beijing on May 23. Representatives from over 30 members of the WIC, and government departments, foreign embassies in China, international chambers of commerce, and industry organizations participated in the meeting. 

On May 19, the WIC organized a special members’ activity day in collaboration with the Dunhuang Academy. They talked about the development and exchange of diverse civilizations in the digital era, fostering a dialogue that transcends millennia. During the event, an information meeting for the collection of 2023 practice cases on "Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace"  was also held.

"Digital China Development Report 2022" released

The Chinese government recently issued the "Digital China Development Report 2022". According to the report, significant progress was made in the building of a digital China in 2022, with a substantial improvement in the country's digital capabilities.

New communication medium invented to protect information from being stolen by hackers 

Scientists from Don State Technical University in Russia have developed a new medium of communication through the technology of quantum teleportation. Encryption algorithms developed using this new method makes it significantly more complex for intercepting data, rendering hacker attacks futile. The research findings were published in Electronics journal.

US plans to strengthen legislation and enforcement standards for AI development

According to a recent report on the website The Hill, the explosive development of generative artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT and the resulting chaos such as the proliferation of false information, biases, and changes in workforce structure have raised concerns among the US federal government. Legislators and regulators are seeking concrete actions to address these concerns.

Microsoft adds watermarks to AI-generated content to address AI deepfakes

Microsoft recently announced its plan to add watermarks to AI-generated content, allowing anyone to identify whether an image or video clip was generated by AI. This technology will cryptographically mark and sign AI-generated content, along with metadata information about its source.

Micron's products fail network security review in China

Recently, China Cybersecurity Review Office conducted a network security review of Micron's products sold in China. The review revealed significant network security vulnerabilities in Micron's products. As a result, the office concluded that the products failed the network security review.

OpenAI calls for establishment of international agency to regulate superintelligent AI

On May 22, local time, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, President Greg Brockman and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever published a blog on the company’s website, saying that artificial intelligence innovation is developing at a rapid pace, and that existing institutions may not have sufficient control over this technology. They called for the establishment of an international organization, something like the International Atomic Energy Agency, to review and regulate superintelligent AI.

Amazon China responds to suspension of its app store: business operations unaffected

Amazon China has issued a statement regarding the closure of its app store, stating that the suspension of the Amazon App Store service will not affect any current Amazon business operations in China.
